The reality of the massive nuclear agenda isn't nuclear power. Under the guise of nuclear power being the solution to climate change the government and nuclear industry is pushing ahead with the biggest expansion of uranium mining seen in Australian history. Most of this expansion is actually setto take place at the already existing Roxby mine in South Australia.
Achieving a change of government at the federal level will do nothingtoward stopping this. Only major concerted protests all over the country will stop this push toward Australia becoming the Saudi Arabia of uranium mining in the 21st century.
Lobbying and public education alone will not stop this. The government doesn't care about public opinion. We need to resurrect the massive anti nuclear demonstrations of 20 - 30 years ago. For a period of about 12 years they were so successful that we had virtually no uranium mining in Australia. In fact for 5 years we had none. Large scale public demonstration make a government look bad and threaten the government with major electoral backlash.
To this end we need as many people as possible involved in the campaign. Nuclear Free Australia is the only group in Melbourne that builds and organises public protests and events for the anti nuclear campaign. We currently have about ten people turning up to our regular meetings. In order to be able to build and organise protests that are as large as possible we need more people. We also need people with specific skills to help us out. Desperately needed are fundraisers, gig organisers, website designers and graphic designers. The future will be nuclear or human free. The choice is yours. Please get involved now.
